The 38-year-old actor was spotted with Suki Waterhouse, a 20-year-old British model and daughter of philanthropist and plastic surgeon Norman Waterhouse, who was photographed visiting him on the set of his new movie in Boston. Cooper and Waterhouse were first seen together on Feb. 12 in London, when they left together in the same limo at the Elle Style Awards before continuing the party at the Cirque du Soir club.

Hollywood Infiltrates the White House with Two Films

The film industry is storming into action with two new movies about terrorists taking over the White House. Veteran filmmaker Roland Emmerich says he couldn’t believe his luck when given the opportunity to make such films.

“It’s such a good idea,” Emmerich, the famous director of movies such as ”2012,” said last week at a Culver City editing facility, where he has been holed up polishing his new film, “White House Down.” “I was surprised no one had done it before.”

What Emmerich failed to note was that the concept has been done before.

The film, set to hit theaters on June 28, follows a wannabe Secret Service agent who unexpectedly winds up at the White House during a fiery terrorist attack. Emmerich’s upcoming action film comes just three months after the release Friday of Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen” — an action film with the same exact premise.

“If all they have in common is a generic concept, two movies in the same season can work. But if they’re similar in their specifics, it could be a problem, especially for the second film,” said Bruce Nash, a film-industry expert who runs the box office website the Numbers. “The White House movies would seem to be much closer to that second category.”

So, how did two identical movies wind up with release dates in such quick succession?

It started when Sony acquired the “White House Down” script last April and appointed Emmerich to direct, positioning themselves to compete with the existing “Olympus” project, which was financed by Millennium Entertainment and had already retained Gerard Butler as the agent.

However, each film is eager to point out their differences. Butler mentioned that Fuqua and Emmerich have immensely different directing styles. Emmerich adds that the films aren’t as similar as they appear.

‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ is Biggest Box Office Hit So Far

James Franco is leading the box office this year as “Oz the Great and Powerful.”

The 3-D blockbuster topped the box office for the second consecutive week, bringing in an estimated $42.2 million, according to studio projections Sunday, making it the biggest hit of 2013 thus far.

Sam Raimi’s prequel to the L. Frank Baum classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” also raked in $46.6 million overseas, leading to a two-week worldwide total of $281.8 million.

“Boy, did we need it,” said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. “There have been a lot of box-office casualties this year. This is the shot in the arm that we needed, but we’re still waiting for the marketplace to gain some sort of momentum.”

Overall, the box office is down about 13 percent from last year.

Coming in second place was Halle Berry’s thriller “The Call,” which exceeded expectations with a $17.1 million opening for Sony and TriStar Pictures. Steve Carell and Jim Carrey’s magical comedy “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone” failed to live up to its high hopes, opening with a disappointing $10.3 million for Warner Bros.

The top two new releases extended a theme at theaters for 2013. Films targeting female audiences have had more success than male-driven films. For instance, “The Call,” in which Berry plays an emergency operator, was intentionally marketed to women, who made up 61 percent of its audience, Sony said. “Burt Wonderstone,” starring Carell and Carrey as rival Las Vegas magicians, failed to captivate its young male comedy audience.

Female audiences have driven most all of the box office hits of the year, including the Melissa McCarthy comedy “Identity Thief” and the vampire romance “Warm Bodies.”

“Studios should take note,” says Dergarabedian. “There’s a lot of female power going on at the box office.”

The pop singer donned a navy Boy Scouts uniform after GLAAD’s campaign for the Boy Scouts of America to end its ban on gay scouts and gay leaders. Madonna, 54, presented the Vito Russo Award to Anderson Cooper, which is awarded to an openly LGBT member of the media who has made a difference in promoting equality.

Rapper Lil Wayne Remains in ICU for 6th Day

Lil Wayne is entering Day 6 in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being admitted for multiple seizures. The rapper’s condition has not improved following his reported drug overdose on “sizzurp,” also known as “purple drank,” a mixture that includes prescription-strength cough syrup mixed with lemon-lime soda and Jolly Ranchers, TMZ reports. Weezy had become famous for his association with the drug, which he recently announced he was quitting.
